At least two retailers have started publishing a 2TB version of Samsung's 970 Pro SSD. One of the highest performing units on the market, and one of the only remaining MLC units.

970 Pro 2TB will combine capacity and performance

The larger 970 Pro will offer high-performance users a new option for high-capacity SSDs, eliminating the need to sacrifice performance for capacity, at least at the 2TB level.

When Samsung released the 970 Pro and 970 Evo SSDs last year, it found itself in a paradoxical situation. For one thing, its flagship 970 Pro drives offered superior performance and better endurance because they were based on 3D MLC memory, but it was the only one to hit 1TB. On the other hand, its slightly slower 970 Evo were available in capacities up to 2TB. As a result, while the performance of the 970 Pro was king, you had to sacrifice some high-end capability to get there.

Samsung is finally preparing a 2TB version of the 970 Pro that will combine capacity and performance. The Samsung 970 Pro 2TB drive (MZ-V7P2T0BW) will presumably be based on Samsung's Phoenix controller with performance similar to the 1TB model (3500/2700MB / s for sequential reads / writes without SLC cache).

It remains to be seen if Samsung is using the 64-layer NAND of the same generation as the original models, or if they will use a 96-layer NAND this time.
