HDD destruction service launched in Japan

There is no user who does not have confidential information on their HDD and SSD hard drives, whether they are personal photos, bank details, passwords, documents and others. However, these products have a deadline of use either because they are damaged by time or we prefer to update our hardware for a faster one or more capacity. In Japan they do not think twice and when in doubt if it is possible that some information can be extracted after formatting they choose to leave it unrecognizable by destroying the physical hard drive.

Hard drive destruction goes physical

Vox Populi tells us that the best way to ensure that confidential data on a hard drive is not recovered is to physically destroy it. There is a Japanese company that just puts its efforts here. Where pedestrians simply dispose of them in clean points, those from companies or large multinationals cannot receive the same treatment.

A Japanese electronics company has created a machine called the CrushBox DB-25II that does just that: physically destroy our disks until they leave their contents unrecoverable using a hydraulic mechanism. In this device we can safely get rid of 2.5 and 3.5 inch HDDs. The same is true for SSD, MD or ZIP disks. The same process is also possible on mobile phones, but the battery needs to be removed first.

All these measures are of course in very specific situations of security or confidentiality. The average user can simply erase the contents of their discs with any fragmentation or formatting software. The Windows Basic option is a good example of this.
