Finding a good thermal solution for our processor is sometimes a difficult task. Enermax wants to make it easy for us with the Enermax Liqmax III 120mm, with a minimalist design, quality components and a very competitive price.

Will this liquid cooling measure up? All this and much more, in our analysis.

First of all, we thank Enermax for their confidence in giving us the product long before its official departure to make our review.

Unboxing

Before starting with the unpacking, we see a presentation with all the luxuries of details on its cover. We see in the foreground an image of the 120mm liquid cooling system, the name in large typeface and its compatibility with the RGB systems of motherboard manufacturers.

In the rear area we come across all the information and technical characteristics of the product. What a good looking!

Now we are going to open the box to see what we focus on inside. The Enermax Liqmax III 120 system comes perfectly accommodated in a cardboard mold, but… What opens in this bundle?

The Enermax Liqmax III 120 stands out for having standard measurements of 154 x 120 x 53 mm, that is, we are dealing with a 120 mm radiator mounting format. Which is practically compatible with any chassis with an output of 12 cm. The entire kit weighs approximately 580 grams.

This radiator features a classic design fin, completely built with aluminum, where the pipes that transport the liquid will circulate, where they will be cooled by means of the forced ventilation system. Both the entrance and the exit are located in the area that we consider superior in a traditional configuration on the side.

Enermax has chosen to paint it in full black, including the fins, although we would like to see a white version soon. White paint would help to dissipate heat more quickly, although as many of you know without paint it would dissipate more efficiently but it would not be so nice.

We have a total of 8 holes between the front and rear to connect a maximum of two 120mm fans. Remember that we only have one, and if we want to do a push & pull (sandwich mode) we will lower the temperatures quite a bit but we will create much more noise due to the air flow.

The base of the Enermax Liqmax III 120 that is responsible for capturing heat is, of course, built on a copper plate which does not have pre-applied thermal paste. To get the most out of it, we must install it ourselves. Thanks to this, we can see the finishes of the base, and the truth is that it shows that it is of quality and with very good details.

On the side, it is also made of metal, and the outer covering is transparent plastic. Which gives it a minimalist and quite solid look.

To have the cooling system running, it is as simple as connecting the PWM cable to our motherboard. We would also like to highlight the RGB system that it incorporates under the front of the block. Although it does not have its own software, it is compatible with the lighting system of ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI boards .

The benefits provided by the manufacturer on this pump are of a noise level less than 14 dBA and that at maximum performance does not exceed 32 dBA. It rotates at a speed of 3100 RPM, has a life time of 50, 000 hours and its pump is built with ceramic bearings.

Fans

In the kit we only have a Dual-Convex Fan manufactured by Enermax. It has a total of 9 blades attached to the central fan motor. Although many would expect an RGB lighting system, we are sorry to point out that it does not have one. It also incorporates in its corners a system of pads that avoid reducing vibrations as much as possible.

This fan has a great performance. It presents dimensions of 120 x 120 x 25 mm, a minimum speed of 500 RPM that at maximum power reaches up to 2000 RPM, a life time of 160, 000 hours, an amperage of 0.27, a flow 22.5 to 90.1 CFM and has a 4-pin PWM cable for operation.

Installation

The assembly process for the Enermax Liqmax III 120, is exactly the same as any liquid refrigeration manufactured by ASETEK or similar. First we have to know that it is compatible with all AMD sockets: AM4 / AM3 + / AM3 / AM2 + / AM2 / FM2 + / FM2 / FM1 and from Intel: 2066 / 2011-3 / 2011/1366/1156/1155/1151/1150.

As we can see in the images we have a bracket that serves both Intel and AMD processors, a couple of hooks in case we need to mount it on an AM4 platform and a multitude of screws to do our installation. We always recommend taking out what we need and organizing it to make assembly easier and faster.

The next step is to take care of placing the backplate on the motherboard making sure that it is compatible with our socket. It is made of a metal alloy and it is extremely easy to install on the back of the motherboard.

Since we are going to use an Intel LGA 2066 platform, we only have to install the 4 screws in the holes located around the socket.

We apply the thermal paste and place the block on top of our processor.

We tighten the screws and then we plug the liquid cooling head into the CPU_FAN or CPU_PWM head of our motherboard. To enjoy!

In order to test the performance of this Enermax Liqmax III 120 we are going to stress our Intel Core i9-7900X for 2 days (48 hours) at its stock speed. Undoubtedly hard test for this liquid cooling, because this CPU has a fairly thick IHS and although it is not soldered, our unit is quite good.

The stress process has been carried out with Prime95 software during all these continuous hours. In your case, we have captured the temperatures with the HWiNFO program in its latest available version and with a Tjmax of 95 o C. Also consider that the ambient temperature has been maintained between 25 degrees during the day and 23 degrees at night.

Final words and conclusion about Enermax Liqmax III 120

Enermax Liqmax III liquid cooling is one of the low cost options for mounting liquid cooling on our computer. This model has a 120mm radiator, allows us to install it in both the AM4 and Intel socket sockets and avoid the weight of a 1 or 1.5 kg heatsink on our processor.

In our tests we have obtained 28 ºC at rest, 66 ºC at maximum power and with a maximum peak of 69 ºC. Undoubtedly, they are very good temperatures considering that an Intel Core i9-7900X from the LGA 2066 socket was cooling. It does not measure up to dual grill radiators, but for those options Enermax offers other ranges.

We recommend that you take a look at our guide on the best heatsinks, fans and liquid cooling on the market

Keep in mind that the pump is quiet and the Enermax RGB system is little intrusive. We can manage it from the RGB application of our motherboard (compatible with ASUS, Gigabyte, ASRock and MSI), so integration is maximum with the computer.

Its price in online store ranges from 50 euros. We believe that it is one of the best quality / price options that we can acquire. What do you think of this refrigeration? We want to know your experience with her!
