Enterprise performance 15k hdd: discs with a speed of 15,000 rpm

Seagate, one of the world's largest hard drive manufacturers, has just announced a new generation of 15, 000 RPM drives up to 900GB that promise a noticeable improvement in speed over previous models, this is the Enterprise Performance 15K HDD.

These new Seagate hard drives called Enterprise Performance 15K HDD are specially designed for the server segment and promise to greatly improve data read and write times, thanks not only to the speed of the platters that reach double that of a conventional 7200 RPM, but also by reading NAND Flash cache memory of about 16GB.

As the folks at Seagate say, compared to previous models, Enterprise Performance 15K HDDs are 27% faster in sequential data rate and up to 100% faster in random write performance.

Response times have been improved up to 10 times, thanks to expanded caching technology. The Seagate Enterprise Performance 15K HDD has 256MB of DRAM cache and another 16GB of NAND Flash read cache.

The disks also have 'Seagate Secure' technology that has all the security measures for federal and business data, in addition to functions that prevent data corruption by unexpected power surges.

These new hard drives will be marketed in capacities of 300, 600 and 900GB, always oriented towards servers. Pricing for these discs has not been disclosed and purchase of these discs requires contacting local Seagate distribution partners.
