Intel Broadwell-E processors have just hit the market and we already know Intel's roadmap for succeeding these chips with the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X generations. The first to arrive will be the Kaby-Lake processors for ultrabooks and convertible gear, the latest craze.

Intel Kaby Lake will begin landing in mid-2016

The Intel Kaby Lake roadmap indicates that the first processors in this family will arrive in the third quarter of this year 2016. The first processors to appear will be the Kaby Lake-Y and -U that will bring to life multiple convertible / tablet computers and low-power ultrabooks / laptops respectively.

Already in the fourth quarter of 2016 will arrive the Kaby Lake-H and -S processors that we can find in high-performance laptops and desktops respectively.

The latest to arrive will be the Kaby Lake-X for the enthusiastic Intel platform with LGA 3647 socket, these chips will be waiting until the second quarter of 2017 and will arrive alongside Skylake-X. These chips are what should have been called Skylake-E and Kaby Lake-E but intel has decided to make a name change.

The new Intel processors will use Intel's 14nm Tri-Gate manufacturing process and It will continue to use the LGA 1151 socket of current Skylake processors through a simple BIOS update, a socket that will also be used by future Cannonlake manufactured at 10nm Tri-Gate. They can be used together with DDR3 and DDR4 memories that support higher speed modules.

Intel has also commented on the new 200 series chipset for Kaby-Lake that extends the maximum of PCI-E lines to 24, support for 5K video, 10-bit HEVC acceleration and 10-bit VP9, ​​native support for USB 3.1, Thunderbolt 3 and 3D XPoint memory.
