Firmware 5.1.0 available for the nvidia shield tv family

Nvidia has released for all lucky users of the Nvidia Shield family, the new firmware 5.1.0, compatible with Shield Android TV, Shield Android TV Pro and Shield TV 2017. The objective of this update is to improve general performance, stability and some other things that we will look at in the following lines.

First off, the update adds rumble support for GeForce Now, this means there will be dual vibration on the Shield knob. The new feature will be compatible with some games like Tomb Raider, ABZU and LEGO Star Wars.

The firmware 5.1.0 for Nvidia Shield also adds support for the VP9 video format with encryption and subsampling. Corrections to Amazon Video surround sound are made and remote control response is improved.

Starting with this new update, new games are added to the catalog, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Just Cause 2 and Diluvion.

For the firmware update, Nvidia provides two types of installation, One version is OTA (Recovery OS) and the other is Developer Only. Make sure you download the correct version for you.
