Formatting a USB storage device can sometimes be frustrating. For this reason we have prepared this tutorial on how to format USB write protected.

If you have tried to format it without being able to do it, since when trying to format an error message appears telling you that the disk is protected, you should not worry, since it has nothing to do with the infection of a virus. As we have seen recently, we tested Kingston Datatraveler 2000 with 256 bit AES encryption.

Format helping with Regedit

In order to solve this problem you will have to access the Windows registry editor.

To be able to format a USB drive that is write protected, you must open Run, pressing Windows + R, then you will type regedit and click Enter, this will open the Windows Registry Editor.

In the event that a warning screen appears, we will click on accept to enter.

Then you will need to locate the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ Currentcontrolset \ control \.

In case StorageDevicePolicies does not appear inside the Control folder, you will have to create a new folder.

For this you will have to go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ Currentcontrolset \ control \ directory, and right click on the Control folder and select New > Key. Change the name inside the New Key # 1 folder to StorageDevicePolicies.

Right-click the StorageDevicePolicies folder, and then select New DWORD (32-bit) value for the 32-bit operating system or New DWORD (64-bit) value for the 64-bit operating system.

After this you must rename the dword newer folder to WriteProtect, after this you will double click WriteProtect (Protect write), modify the data to with the hexadecimal base and after this close the Registry Editor. Then Open in Team, update it 5 times without doing anything in the USB and remove the hardware safely.

To finish you will have to connect the USB to your PC and you will format it using exFAT instead of FAT32. Then you can format it again in FAT32 and you will have a USB stick taken from the factory.

As always we invite you to share our article on your social networks and if you have doubts we will be happy to solve them.
