You have found a folder called found.000 and you don't know what it is, right? Don't worry, it's nothing serious. Inside, we explain everything to you.

Windows can create certain folders with weird names that, at first glance, are suspicious of something dark. However, it is something normal and routine, so you should not worry too much. In this case, let's talk about the found.000 folder, which appears at the root of the unit and evokes more questions than answers. Next, we explain what it is and what it is for.

found.000 What is it and what is it for?

This mysterious folder can be found at the root of our drive (hard drive, USB stick, etc.) and can be called found.001, found.002, etc. It consists of a folder that is generated automatically when the famous checkdisk or " chkdsk " is run, like any other tool for the hard disk. This is because chkdsk is used to repair the hard disk, be it partitions, sectors, etc.

In the case of wanting to recover the data, this folder stores the data that we have lost while doing chkdsk. That said, it can be removed without any problem, but be careful: do not delete this folder when those files are missing. Similarly, if you have deleted it, you can go to the trash and restore it normally.

I would like to mention that this folder is hidden. What do you mean? Well, to see it, you will have to do the following:

  • Go to the root of your hard drive.

  • You go to the top tab of "View" and select the "Hidden Items" tab.

This folder should already appear in the root of your drive. Remember that we have had to use chkdsk in command prompt to generate it.

So, you already know what this mysterious folder is and what it is for. If you have any questions about it, you can ask us below and we will answer you as quickly as possible.

Did you know its function? Any experience you have had deleting it?
