Fsp launches another liquid-cooled source and the sfx dagger pro range

The manufacturer of power supplies FSP has shown its next launches at CES 2019. The most particular of them is the 850W version of the already existing Hydro PTM + range with liquid cooling, among others such as the SFX Dagger Pro range.

FSP Hydro PTM + HPT850M, with liquid cooling from Bitspower

FSP manufactures its products entirely, but for this specific range they have had the support of Bitspower to create a source with the peculiarity of using a liquid cooling system.

The area of action of this system is the PCB, a place that can be absurd for many users. It makes sense, though: In many sources, this is where the 12V rail MOSFETs are located , components that often get really hot and are usually cooled by placing aluminum heatsinks on top of them. In this case, the action of liquid cooling would help to cool them properly.

Thus, we are quite reluctant to this cooling system. We believe that it is unnecessary, and that it carries a security risk in a not very useful way, because although the possibilities of escape are minimal, if there were one the consequences could be fatal. In addition, this implies a premium that will surely match it to sources with better specifications and / or more power.

The price and availability of these sources has not been announced, but the 1200W version was around $ 700, so we can expect a somewhat high figure. The source has 80 Plus Platinum and Cybenetics ETA A efficiency certification, and Cybenetics LAMBDA A loudness certification. You can see Cybenetics data here.

Perhaps more interesting to most mortals is the new FSP Dagger Pro, SFX format font (more info on PSU formats here), a 100% modular 80 Plus Gold font that makes use of the manufacturer's typical ACRF topology, and of which we have little more information. A range that could fall into irrelevance or be competitive and interesting, the latter is left to FSP's decision.

We do not know the price and availability of both ranges of sources. What do you think of the concept of the Hydro PTM +? Do you think it is useful, does it have any future? Don't forget to leave your opinion in the comments.
