We already know that Nvidia is currently working on a new variant of its most popular graphics card among users, the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, to counter the launch of the AMD Radeon RX 590. New information indicates that the improvement in the new GeForce GTX 1060 version with GDDR5X memories will be conspicuous by its absence.

The GeForce GTX 1060 with GDDR5X memory does not offer any advantage over the current model

According to the specifications released by Palit, the new GeForce GTX 1060 with GDDR5X memories is little more than a marketing gimmick. The new version of this popular graphics card has 6 GB of GDDR5X memory, which runs at a speed of 8800 MHz, and still has a 192-bit memory interface. With these characteristics, the card has a bandwidth of 211.2 GB / s.

Last year, Nvidia updated the 6 GB GeForce GTX 1060 with GDDR5 memories capable of reaching a speed of 9 Gbps, which together with its 192-bit bus gives a bandwidth of 216 GB / s. This means that the new variant of the GDDR5X memory card comes with a lower memory clock and bandwidth than the update with 9 Gbps GDDR5 memories, therefore, there has been no progress in this regard.

The card still features the GP106 graphics core with 1, 280 CUDA cores, and the Palit model arrives with a core clock speed of 1531 MHz, being able to reach a turbo speed of up to 1746 MHz. With these features, it is very difficult to make sense of the new Nvidia release, at best GDDR5X memory could improve the space for overclocking as Nvidia partners could be using 10 Gbps GDDR5X chips which are knows that they overclock well beyond 11 Gbps.
