Gigabyte Aero 15 Technical Features

Unboxing and design

The Gigabyte Aero 15 arrives in a very elegant black cardboard box. On its cover we can see printed the silhouette of the laptop and in large letters the model.

Once we open the laptop, we find that everything is very protected for its staging. Inside we find the following elements:

  • Gigabyte Aero 15 Instruction Manual Quick Installation Guide Power Supply and Cable

The Gigabyte Aero 15 is a laptop with an ultrabook design with all the features of a much thicker laptop. It has a 15.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD). This is made with an IPS 16: 9 panel and 141 PPI offering good excellent color fidelity. Although additionally there is a review with a 4K screen: 3840 x 2160p.

And is that lovers of graphic design and photo retouching we are in luck thanks to the X-Rite Pantone certification, offering excellent panel calibration. We leave you a view of how the laptop looks at different viewing angles.

The Gigabyte Aero 15 incorporates very compact dimensions of 33 x 250 x 19.9 mm and a weight of 1.89 kg. Quite an achievement considering all the internal components that this high-performance laptop incorporates. Currently it can be purchased in black, green or the striking orange.

Between the screen and the keyboard we find a double camera that allows us to hold conferences with a higher quality. It is one of the best laptops we have tested to date with this format.

Among its connections we find a kensington blocker, two classic USB 3.0 connections, another USB 3.0 Type C and a 3-in-1 SD card reader.

While on the other side we come across an RJ45 connection. another USB 3.0, an HDMI, another miniDisplayPort and the audio input / output.

While in the rear area we find the two fans that are responsible for expelling the hot air given off by the laptop at maximum performance.

Gigabyte's CHICLET keyboard arrives this time with RGB lighting. We see it as a positive point in dark situations or those users who, if they do not have a component of their PC that is somewhat RGB, is not gaming.

Its comfort is maximum and we quickly get used to using it. One of the great novelties is that Gigabyte has eliminated the macro keys that we were in the Aero 14 model . So we don't have macro keys? Sure, anyone serves us! How? Thanks to its software it allows us to create our own macros. What sounds good!

Nor should we forget the touchpad which is of great quality and has dimensions of 10.5 x 7 cm.

Now we look at the bottom area of the laptop. And we find an infinity of grilles to improve ventilation. Although if you want to open it you will lose the right to the guarantee. However, few modifications can be made, since everything comes very compact.

As for the processor we find an i7 7700HQ of the socket socket FCBGA 1440 with 4 cores and 8 threads based on the Kaby Lake architecture at a frequency of 2.6GHz and a turbo frequency of 3.5 GHz with a TDP of 45W. It has a total of 16 GB of DDR4 SODIMM RAM at 1.2V and 2400 MHz in dual channel. This configuration offers excellent performance for both work and play.

Gigabyte has opted for a 256 GB SSD disk drive in M.2 format with very acceptable read and write. Although we miss a second unit as backup storage (save all the data or heavy videos), so we will have to pull an external drive for it.

The graphics section has the powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card with a total of 1280CUDA Cores accompanied by 6 GB of GDDR5 memory with a 192-bit interface. With these specifications we can play any game in 1920 x 1080p resolution (the native one) in ULTRA and enjoy any game with virtual glasses. What's more, Gigabyte has taken out some backpacks that allow us to put the laptop on our back and enjoy HTC Vive as a small child without the need for cables.

We compared the Aero 15 vs Aero 14

Highlight their autonomy that they promise us up to a total of 10 hours thanks to its 94Wh (9 cells). Although in our tests we have achieved an average of 6-7 hours working daily. Obviously when we play, it lasts an hour and a half, which is an achievement considering that a few years ago it was unthinkable.

Finally indicate that it incorporates a small 150W charger that allows us to connect both the laptop to the light and additionally charge our smartphone or tablet. This is ideal for those users who travel a lot and need to carry as little as possible in their luggage.

Test of performance

The Gigabyte Aero 15 incorporates software that allows us to customize various aspects of our laptop: brightness, battery mode, adjust the profile of the fans and even monitor the entire PC on the same screen. Additionally, it has an application to customize the keyboard lighting effects.

Regarding performance tests we have passed Cinebench R15 and the result is 617 CB points. An excellent result considering the low TDP it incorporates.

You can also see the performance of the M.2 NVMe disk that the equipment incorporates. Specifically, it is the Liteon CX2-8B256 model. Finally, we leave you the performance tests with several very demanding titles and the most played of the moment. We have chosen to only pass the games to the native resolution: 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) so that you can see what good performance it offers as is.

Final words and conclusion about Gigabyte Aero 15

The Gigabyte Aero 15 is one of the best ultrabook notebooks we've tested in recent years. A super fine design, unbeatable screen quality, good graphics and processing power, and autonomy of up to 6 to 7 hours of mixed use.

In our tests we have been able to verify that its performance is great. In other versions we used the incorporation of a good keyboard (now RGB) and this time if we have had it. Another fact to keep in mind is that it does not have its own keys for macros, but instead has chosen to pull software to program them to our liking. What we think is a great idea!

But special mention should be made of what games look like with this IPS panel certified by X-rite Pantone. It is the perfect complement for users who want to play and do graphic design or photo retouching.

We did not miss almost anything, except a secondary hard drive... but from what we have been able to verify they hardly have space in the assembly of the laptop. But we have the possibility of inserting a second M.2 NVMe disk inside, so we can get an extra with a small investment, although we can always opt for an external storage unit .

Its price in Spain is around 1965 euros in its three available colors: black, green and orange. And it is sincerely worth every euro we invest in it, as long as it is a laptop that you are looking for potability and thinness, which is its great advantage over the rest of the Gigabyte models.
