Unboxing and design

The Gigabyte RX580 Gaming Box device is offered to the user in a perfectly protected cardboard box, the product is accommodated and supported by several pieces of high-density foam, which will prevent it from moving during transport.

The most important specifications are detailed on the back of the box. Gigabyte has put a lot of care so that it reaches the hands of the end user in the best possible conditions, a characteristic of the brand in all its products.

We open the box and we find the following bundle:

Gigabyte RX580 Gaming Box has a very compact size of only 212 x 96 x 162 mm and a weight of 2378 grams. This device hides inside all the power of the AMD Radeon RX 580, the top-of-the-range card that is based on AMD's Polaris silicon.

This card includes 2304 shaders that operate at maximum base and turbo frequencies of 1340 MHz and 1355 MHz respectively, the graphic core is accompanied by 8 GB of GDDR5 memory with a 256-bit interface and a bandwidth of 256 GB / s. These specifications make it a very powerful card to play 1080p and even 2K.

The Gigabyte RX580 Gaming Box has its own internal power supply, with a power of 450W and energy efficiency 80 Plus Gold to reduce consumption and with it the generation of heat. This energy certificate ensures a minimum efficiency of 90%.

Cooling is provided by a fan and metal mesh sides to allow fresh air to enter. Gigabyte has mounted a high quality fan, allowing to generate a large air flow with a very low noise level. The fan features hydraulic bearings, which helps reduce friction and improve durability.

The entire case is made of high-quality black aluminum, which will help dissipate all the heat generated to prevent the graphics card inside from overheating. The manufacturer has included a dust filter on the metal mesh grill to keep the inside of the device free of dust, which would damage the cooling of the card.

Gigabyte has also included its RGB Fusion lighting system for unsurpassed aesthetics, this system is responsible for breaking with the monotony that excess black could mean in the design. This system is fully configurable through the management software, it allows us to choose between 16.8 million colors and a multitude of light effects.

Gigabyte RX580 Gaming Box has an advanced Thunderbolt 3 interface (USB Type-C) to communicate with the PC, it is an interface capable of offering a bandwidth of up to 40 Gbps, with this we will have no problems getting everything out of it the potential to this Radeon RX 580.

This Thunderbolt 3 port can supply an electrical power of up to 100W, being ideal to charge the battery of our PD 3.0 compatible computer or even keep it running. The manufacturer has also included 4 USB 3.1 ports, one of them with fast charge, and the video outputs of the graphics card itself in the form of 2 DVI, 1 HDMI and 1 DisplayPort.

To check the stability of the graphics card we will use a Lenovo Yoga 730 laptop with a processor Low consumption: Intel i5-8250U 3.4 GHz, 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB SSD NVMe and a 13.3-inch screen.

Final words and conclusion about Gigabyte RX580 Gaming Box

After testing the Aorus Gaming Boxes: GTX 1070 and GTX 1080, it was our turn to go through our test bench to the Gigabyte RX580 Gaming Box. This is an external graphics card ideal for designers and casual gamers who use their laptop for both work and play.

In our tests we have been able to verify that it is very good both in games and in synthetic tests with a Lenovo Yoga 730. Keep in mind that 13.3-inch ultrabooks incorporate a 4-core processor and is always a limitation with respect to a desktop computer.

For example, we have been able to play titles like Crysis 3 at 52 stable FPS or the same Doom 4 at 95 FPS. What a good performance! As a curiosity at Computex we were able to check the good performance it offered with portable MAC computers, by being able to edit videos with Adobe Premiere more easily.
