SK Hynix announced this morning that it is launching a new series of SSD drives called SuperCore , which will be available to customers shortly. The first version of the new family will be the Gold S31, 2.5-inch SATA drives with capacities ranging from 250GB to 1TB.

Hynix Returns To Retail SSD Drive Market With Gold S31 Series

This marks the historic manufacturer's return to the retail market, with the introduction of the Gold S31 SSDs based on the company's NAND and SSD drivers, but not much detail is floating about what to expect from them. Other drives will also be on the way, with read speeds of 560MB / sec and write speeds of 525MB / sec, which are very similar to those of other products on the market today. Store listings also confirm that the units will include DRAM.

SK Hynix was previously a serious competitor in the SSD market alongside manufacturers like Samsung and Intel, all of which have historically created their own products at home and targeted them to the consumer. Hynix also had its SSD products for the retail market but they never made it to North America. Traditionally they have only been available through other means, but when it comes to selling them through official channels, that has not yet come true. Instead, they have focused on other technologies, such as OEM units.

These Hynix SSDs are now exclusively sold in North America through Amazon, although next year they will be distributed to Europe and other territories. It also appears that by then the company will have already launched new products for PCIe.

The 250GB drive can be purchased for just $ 50, the 500GB version for $ 78, and the 1TB version for $ 124.
