Google images removes some advanced search functions
Table of contents:
Google Images is the fastest way to find an image on the web, and it has undergone some changes lately. A recently discovered change to Google Images was the removal of a search filter in which it allowed users to find images of exact sizes.
Google Images with fewer search options
The toolbar at the top of each Google Images search contains a selection of various filters, including size, color, usage rights, image type, and upload date. This makes it much easier to narrow down the search to find an image than much more at our discretion.
However, in recent days, Google has removed the option to filter an image search by the exact size of the photo or by a minimum resolution. These options have been available on Google Images for years and we are not entirely sure why Google has suddenly removed them. The change seems widespread as far as we can tell, with a Reddit thread piling up comments on the matter.
It may be that Google is looking to replace the feature, but at the moment, we are not sure. Fortunately, there is a way to avoid this. If you head to Google's advanced image search feature, you can still filter for sizes greater than certain megapixel counts, but the ability to filter by exact size is not available here.
If we want to use these features, we can appeal to Bing, which is included in its search engine by images.
This has always been a useful tool for many in finding suitable wallpapers or images with very specific resolution. It is probably not the most used tool, but it is a functionality that many will not be able to take advantage of from now on.
