The arrival of the new Google Pixel terminals predicted what many users feared, the Internet giant has decided to put an end to its Nexus family so we will not see new devices from this prestigious series, at least in the short term.

Goodbye Nexus, hello Pixel

The Google Nexus were born due to the problems that users had years ago to find terminals with Android at competitive prices and that offered an excellent user experience, mid-range terminals were not capable of offering proper operation and the top of the range had (and they have) very high and abusive prices. The Nexus came with the premise of offering an excellent experience of use in terminals with adjusted prices, the best example of this has been the Nexus 4 four years ago.

Currently it is very easy to find cheap Android terminals with excellent performance, something that is further accentuated if we decide to buy in the Chinese market. With this, the approach of the Nexus line has ceased to make sense and Google has decided to bet on a new strategy: design and manufacture its own devices supported by its operating system and services. A very different approach to the previous one since in the Nexus series Google only puts the operating system and services and the different manufacturers are in charge of manufacturing the hardware.

We recommend reading our guide to the best Chinese smartphones on the market.

For now Google will be limited to manufacturing high-end terminals and those that have no direct rivals from different manufacturers. Perhaps over time Google will decide to cover the mid-range with its Pixel terminals.
