They record hackers controlling the interface of a power grid

In 2015, a group of hackers managed to access the computer networks of some Ukrainian electricity companies, causing a blackout for more than 200, 000 people. Now a video recorded by one of the employees of one of those companies has also come to light and shows how the hackers took over and began to remotely control the mouse of one of the computers to deactivate the alternators.

Hackers remotely access the infrastructure of power companies to cause blackouts

Two days before Christmas 2015, engineers at the energy company Prykkarpatyaoblenergo, located in western Ukraine, were left without access to their PCs, while the mouse cursors began to be remotely controlled by hackers, who agreed to the circuit control interface to cut off the power to the entire population of the region.

One of the engineers who were there at the time decided to record a video on his iPhone just as the attack was taking place. The PC featured in the video was a test unit, and was not connected to the Prykkarpatyaoblenergo electrical infrastructure, but it is still the same method used by hackers to attack the electrical control systems of the other companies in the country, reaching cause blackouts of up to six hours.

As we told you recently, at the end of 2016, a series of attacks on Ukraine's electricity companies occurred again, this time using malware known as CrashOverride, which can trigger automatic Stuxnet-style attacks on electrical infrastructure. There are even those who assure that these attacks could be simple tests for future operations, perhaps against the United States.
