With the arrival of Windows 10, Microsoft tried to promote the use of the new Precision Touchpad technology to perform new gestures that help speed up the task on these laptops.

Gestures to perform with a Precision Touchpad

Keep in mind that the gestures that we are going to detail below only work if you have a laptop with a Precision Touchpad. Many current devices already have this type of technology such as The Dell XPS 13, the Microsoft Surface Book or the Surface Pro 2 onwards, if your computer is about 3 or 4 years old, it surely does not have a Precision Touchpad, so forget from this.

If you are not sure if your laptop has this technology, you can check it by following the steps below.

  • Click on the Start button. Then in Configuration. We go to Devices. We click Mouse and touch screen. In the section of Touch Panel we will be indicated if the equipment is compatible with precision gestures, in which case it will say "Your PC has a touch panel of precision. ''

Left click: To click with the left mouse button you have to click once on the touch panel.

Right click: To click with the left mouse button all you have to do is press once with two fingers at the same time on the touch panel. An alternative is to press once and with a single finger on the upper right corner of the touch panel.

Drag and drop: Press once on the touch panel when the cursor is over the item you want to move and without lifting your finger, you must drag it to the desired place. To release the element you will have to lift your finger and double click on the panel.

Moving through the window: To scroll up or down through a window or document, you only have to put two fingers on the touch screen and move them horizontally or vertically.

Zoom +/-: If you want to zoom in on the content, you will have to place two fingers on the panel next to each other, to gradually separate them. If what you want is to move the content away, you should do the opposite, put your fingers together. Its operation is very similar to a Smartphone.

Open the Task View tool: You will have to rest 3 fingers on the touchpad and slide them upwards. Once you are in the task view you can move your finger across the panel to move the cursor in the view. To exit the Task View you will have to slide three fingers down.

Access the desktop: If you are in any window and want to return to the desktop, you only have to put three fingers on the touch panel and slide them down. Make the opposite gesture to bring up the window you just minimized.

Move between open windows: To move between the different windows that you have open in Windows 10, you must place three fingers on the touch panel and slide them left or right to move from one to another.

Activate Cortana (or Open the Action Center): To quickly activate Cortana you will have to press three fingers at the same time on the touch panel. This gesture can also be configured to open the action center instead of Cortana.

In the same section of Mouse and touch panel they will be able to personalize this experience and adapt it to their liking. I hope it has been useful to you and see you next time.
