A couple of hackers have caused many comments on Twitter yesterday. Since they took the social network to boast of having managed to hack about 70, 000 Chromecast devices. Apparently, they claimed that there is a security flaw in them, so that sensitive user information was exposed. This hack on his part was a warning to consumers.

Although it seems that the alleged security flaw has more to do with the user's router than with the Google device.

Chromecast security flaw

The failure has to do with the Universal Plug and Play protocol, known as UPnP. This system allows devices to open and close ports autonomously to modify the connection according to the needs of the moment. But the fault resides in the user's router and not in Chromecast. Due to these settings, hackers are allowed to access the Google device. They get it through said exploit.

Users can easily remove this access. They have to type 192.168.1.1 in the browser, to access the configuration of their router. Once they are logged in, there is a section to prevent this UPnP protocol from being activated. In many cases it is in the Network Configuration section.

This way no one will be able to access your Chromecast using this method. Many users may have gotten a good scare, but luckily it was nothing serious in this case. With these steps, the problem would be solved.
