Internet security researchers find that there are approximately 1.5 billion sensitive files exposed on the Internet. With the sheer number of businesses out there today to trade online, reports of massive data breaches happening are becoming something of a regular utopia, leaving information from millions of users around the world out in the open.

Millions of sensitive information from users and companies can be easily obtained on the Internet

An Internet security research team has discovered that more than 1.5 billion online files are exposed to the possibility of being obtained. Without a doubt, this is a worrying amount.

Statistics

In a BBC report, the research team found that details such as medical reports and even payrolls were available online. Apparently these are easily accessible to those who even have a basic understanding of online trading. This also included sensitive company data, including products that were not yet available on the market.

The company Digital Shadows found that, in total, the EU (European Union) represented around 36% of all files exposed online. This equates to about 500 million sensitive files.

These results are precisely coinciding with a new British legislation that will be introduced in May and that could sanction companies with a fine of 4% of their GDP if they suffer a serious security violation.
