We've been talking about HDMI 2.1 for a long time, but since January 2017, after its announcement, only a handful of TVs support it. The thing is, it requires a specifically optimized and certified cable, a certification that is not yet finalized. But that is about to change.
HDMI 2.1 will offer 48 Gbps bandwidth and support 8K @ 60hz resolutions
Numerous cable developers are already prototyping their HDMI 48G products that are labeled Ultra High Speed HDMI. Additionally, TV manufacturers are preparing the first Ultra-HD TVs using HDMI 2.1.

HDMI 2.1 48G cables use four data lines that operate at 12 Gbps each for an added bandwidth of 48 Gbps, which is an increase over the current 18 Gbps, while maintaining compatibility with existing equipment. The additional bandwidth HDMI 2.1 offers allows you to support new Ultra-HD resolutions and refresh rates, including 4K-120fps, 8K-100fps / 120fps, 10K-100fps / 120fps, and upcoming color spaces such as BT.2020 (Rec. 2020) with 10, 12, or even more advanced with 16 bits of color. Actually, high resolutions and bit depths consume up to 48 Gbps of bandwidth quickly, so for anything higher than 8K-60 with 4: 2: 0 chroma subsampling and 10-bit color, the DSC 1.2a VESA link compression technology.
Cable manufacturers often have enough experience to build HDMI 2.1 48G products, HDMI Forum supports. However, since there is no HDMI 2.1 48G certification program, it is not recommended to sell products marked as ultra high speed HDMI cables.
HDMI 2.1 cables already certified for 8K-60fps resolutions may arrive before the 2020 Summer Olympics, which will air worldwide in 8K resolution.
