16 years ago today Apple revealed the original ipod

Today marks the 16th anniversary of the debut of the first iPod that was introduced by Steve Jobs on October 23, 2001. The CEO of Apple took the stage at the Apple Town Hall in Cupertino, California and showed a compact device that fit in his pocket and in which we could keep our music library l.

16 years of an agonizing iPod

The first-generation iPod, which Apple promoted under the slogan "1, 000 songs in your pocket, " was a rectangular device with a 1.8 ″ hard drive and 5GB of storage capable of holding 1, 000 songs. It also had a small black-and-white LCD screen and a wheel that allowed users to quickly scroll through long playlists.

This “click wheel” also included easy-access buttons to play, pause, rewind and fast forward through songs. The battery life was up to 10 hours on a single charge and its price was $ 399.

Steve Jobs defined it as "a great leap forward" highlighting three specific advances: its ultraportable nature, its great ease of use and automatic synchronization with iTunes.

After the original iPod, Apple released new versions annually, including other notable releases such as the Photo model in 2004, which included the first color display, an even smaller iPod mini in 2004, the small iPod nano in 2005, the Even smaller iPod Shuffle in 2005, or the first iPod touch, which came out in 2007 after the iPhone launched.

However, over the years, the iPod has fallen out of favor. Today the iPhone, introduced six years after the iPod, has largely replaced it as a device for listening to music. So much so that last July the company removed all models from its catalog, with the exception of that iPod Touch whose future also ventures short.
