HyperDisk is a new portable SSD that I appreciated in a Kickstarter campaign, and offers us the possibility of taking advantage of the USB 3.1 connection speed to quickly store data on an external SSD drive.

HyperDisk, A small portable SSD appears listed on Kickstarter with a capacity of up to 2TB

The HyperDisk SSD promises USB 3.1 Gen.2 (10Gbps) performance with transfer speeds of up to 1GB / s from a lightweight 45g portable drive with universal compatibility. In addition, the Kickstarter campaign allows 'backers' to obtain a version of up to 2TB. As for the price, the 2TB version can be purchased for $ 1, 799 HK, which is equivalent to about 229 USD. It is a very good price, especially for a portable unit of that size.

The drive consists of a 2242 SSD module packaged in an aluminum alloy casing. All of this is connected via a Type C connector on the unit.

It seems to be quite a feat to achieve a 2TB drive in a 2240 format, which until now was only limited to 512GB drives. The unit is using NAND modules of the QLC type, however, some believe that it was possible to make a unit of this type with 2 TB of capacity without resorting to RAID configuration with 2 modules.

There are other alternatives with which we can take advantage of the USB 3.1 connection type for external storage, such as the MyDigitalSSD M2X, with which we can 'convert' any M.2 SSD into a portable storage device.

The HyperDisk, smaller than a credit card, still has several days until its financing campaign ends, however, it has already exceeded the goal that had been set of about 10, 000 USD. As of this writing, the HyperDisk has already raised about $ 531, 000.
