Intel is preparing in its laboratories what will be the next generation of Ice Lake processors, which will replace the impending Coffee Lake. This new generation that is already being perpetrated is going to further increase the number of cores for personal computers and there is also good news regarding compatibility with 300 series motherboards.

The 9th generation Intel Core will arrive at 10nm

With the launch of Coffee Lake practically accomplished, the next step will be Ice Lake, which will be a breakthrough at all levels compared to Kaby Lake - Coffee Lake, thanks to its new 10nm manufacturing process. This would suppose a notable improvement in the power consumption and would also allow to increase the performance with a higher density of transistors in the same dimensions.

Ice Lake processors would also come directly with 8 cores and 16 threads of execution, unlike the 6 cores and 12 threads that Coffee Lake is offering with its i7s.

Ice Lake would be scheduled for mid-2018

The good news is that Intel would not force users to change motherboards and Ice Lake would be compatible with Intel 300 series chipsets. Of course this is not yet officially confirmed, so take it with tweezers.

The launch of Ice Lake would be scheduled for mid-2018, probably in the third quarter of that year. We will keep you up to date with all the news that may arise about this new generation Intel Core, which we will surely hear a lot about after the launch of Coffee Lake.
