Ifixit concludes that the new ipad 5 is a slightly modified ipad air
Table of contents:
As we are already used to with each new generation of iPhones and iPads, iFixit has decided to disassemble the new iPad 5 (announced last week) to show the world all its insides.
The first conclusion iFixit technicians came to is that Apple's new 9.7-inch iPad 5 is basically a slightly modified version of the iPad Air released in 2013. Both devices share the same battery and the same screen, although there are certain modifications, such as the integration of the A9 processor (also used in the iPhone 6s and iPhone SE) or the Touch ID functions.

Also, the portal points out that the new iPad shares more similarities with the iPad Air 1 than with the second version. For example, the device is slightly thicker than the Air 2 and is almost twice as thick as the original iPad Air.
The new iPad also shares the same screen structure as the original Air, so the screen and digitizer are separate, which is an advantage and would make it easier to repair and replace each component separately. On the other hand, the downside is that there is now an air gap between the glass and the screen, something that reminds us of old iPad models.

Other things to note are the lack of a dedicated side button to mute the device, the iPad Air 2's Touch ID button presentation, and other minor tweaks to the microphone and speaker grilles.
The new iPad 5 is already on sale for a base price of 399 euros. But before buying it, think about whether it would not be more convenient for you to go for the previous model or even for the iPad Air, since the improvements are not so important.
