Intel has announced its sixth generation of Core microprocessors better known as Skylake. These new chips are manufactured in the same process at 14nm as broadwell and premiere the new LGA 1151 socket, they are also the first to bring DDR4 memory to the mainstream sector. For now there are two Skylake chips that have been presented, the Core i5 6600K and the Core i7 6700K, both with four physical cores.

Core i7 6700K

The Core i7 6700K comes with a base frequency of 4 GHz that goes up to 4.2 GHz in turbo mode. It has an 8 MB L3 cache and HyperThreading technology that allows it to run up to 8 threads. As for the integrated graphics, it comes with the Intel HD GPU with an operating frequency between 350 MHz and 1, 200 MHz. It has a 91W TDP and support for DDR4-2133 and DDR3L-1600 memory. Its approximate price is 350 euros.

Core i5 6600K

For its part, the Core i5 6600K maintains the same four physical cores at 3.5 GHz / 3.9 GHz but loses HyperThreading so it can only run 4 threads. Its L3 cache is reduced to 6 MB and it maintains the same GPU and the same memory controller as the Core i7 6700K. Its price is approximately 240 euros.

Both processors are unlocked for overclocking and sold without a heatsink so the user should obtain one if they do not already have one, all models compatible with the LGA 1150 socket are compatible with these new processors and their LGA 1151 motherboards.

Z170 chipset

The first motherboards with Skylake support will be based on the Z170 chipset designed with gamers and overclockers in mind. As usual in the Z series, it allows modifying the multiplier of unlocked processors to facilitate overclocking for users. With this new generation of motherboards, the DMI bandwidth has been increased to 64 Gbps (vs. 32 Gbps in the previous generation), which should improve the performance of the new PCI-Express and M format SSD mass storage devices. two.
