Intel announces its 56-core 'cooper lake' xeon chips for 2020

According to Intel, the next-generation Xeon Scalable family, known as Cooper Lake (SP) and based on the 14nm process node, would offer up to 56 cores and 112 threads.

In addition to the larger number of cores, Intel's Xeon Scalable 'Cooper Lake' processor line is said to offer higher memory bandwidth, higher AI inference, and higher training performance, while being compatible with blfloat16 via Intel's DL Boost framework. The Whitley platform, which will be based on the LGA 4189 socket, will also be compatible with Intel's Ice Lake-SP processors that use the 10nm process node. Ice Lake-SP will also launch in 2020, just after the introduction of Cooper Lake-SP. The Whitley platform would offer support for 8 channels of DDR4 memory and PCIe Gen 3.0.
