Intel core i5 vs i7 which one should I choose?

Table of contents:

Anonim

The Core i7 processors are the most powerful from Intel since the arrival of the Core iX nomenclature in 2008. It has not been until now that the Core i9 have arrived but only within the high-performance platform that is not aimed at the bulk of users, therefore the Core i7 are still the most powerful for mortals. Do you really need to buy a Core i7 processor? The answer is most likely NO.

Intel Core i5 vs i7: Core i7s are not for everyone

The Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 are the main processor families of Intel, below we have the Pentiums and the Celerons but if you are a user of one of them surely you will not consider the change to "fattest".

Core i5 are the processors that meet the needs of almost all users, they are models with four cores and four processing threads that offer excellent performance for all kinds of tasks. Below we have the simpler Core i3 dual core and four threads and above the Core i7 quad core and eight threads.

The difference between Core i5 and Core i7 is not very great in most cases, it is true that the benchmarks can show quite large differences but they are in very specific cases and even so a Core i5 can be more than enough. The Core i7 are processors more focused on professionals, these chips take their biggest advantage in very heavy tasks such as video editing at 4K resolution. At work time equals money and therefore having a more powerful processor can be a great advantage.

The following graphic represents the difference between a Core i7 and a Core i5 in video rendering using HandBrake and Blender:

And this graph represents the difference in more common tasks:

The bulk of users are not engaged in 4K video editing tasks so the Core i7 advantage is greatly reduced (and the price difference remains), a Core i5 can be 33% cheaper and offer a similar performance so it will be a much more attractive investment. Even for tasks such as browsing, writing emails, office automation, watching movies and much more, a Core i3 is more than enough (it is the processor of this server).

But what about video games?

The Core i7 can give a better performance than the Core i5 in games but the difference will not be very large in most cases, it is usually much more profitable to mount a Core i5 and save money compared to an i7 to invest in a more powerful graphics card. At the time we wrote a post dedicated to Core i7 vs Core i5 in games and the conclusion was very clear.
