Intel Gen12 is the new graphics architecture that Intel is working on, promising a major graphical change that can make Intel much more competitive in this segment.

Intel Gen12 achieves 33% performance increase over Iris Pro P580

Among some of the changes, the executing unit will relieve itself of the additional workload of having to ensure consistency of data between log reads and writes. All of that internal load would be being redirected to a reworked compiler, thus releasing loops that could be better used to process more polygons.

Intel would also be increasing the number of execution units in this new architecture, which should clearly have an impact on graphics performance. The execution units are not very different from what AMD's Stream Processors or Nvidia's CUDA Cores would become.

Intel Gen12 appears evaluated in CompuBench , and the report includes interesting data, such as the number of execution units (96) this is a significant increase with respect to the Iris Pro P580, with its 72 UE units, and quite far from the UHD 630 and its 24 units in the EU.

Based on the performance seen on Compubench , there is a 33% performance boost over Iris Pro P580, which is currently the most powerful iGPU Intel has.

The piece was timed at 1.1 GHz, which is the same clock speed as that of the Iris Pro P580 at full load. We will see what Intel has to offer with its new iGPUs and if this performance leap is confirmed.
