Much has already been talking about the upcoming Intel Kaby Lake processors that will arrive as Skylake's successors. Now we have learned that Kaby Lake will arrive at the end of the year during the month of December on desktop computers.

Intel Kaby Lake Coming to Desktop in December with Major Improvements

Thus, during the month of December, the new seventh generation Intel Core i7, Core i5 and Core i3 processors will arrive for desktop computers. These new chips will implement the most advanced technologies such as USB 3.1, HDCP 2.2 and Thunderbolt 3 to catch up. Kaby Lake will give Intel graphics a boost by being able to run Overwatch at 4K resolution. With this, the Intel Kaby Lake processors could be more than enough to enjoy most games at 1080p resolution and with very respectable levels of detail. The Kaby Lake GPU will be compatible with DirectX 12 and Vulkan so they would benefit from games that are based on these modern APIs.

The laptops will be the first beneficiaries of Kaby Lake since in September we will see the first computers with the new Intel processors, they will be low-power laptops with the Kaby Lake-Y platform formed by dual-core chips with a TDP of 4.5W and Kaby Lake-U more powerful and with a TDP of 15W. The former will be found in 2-in-1 convertible kits while the latter will be present in Ultrabooks and budget kits. Already in January the top-of-the-range processors for notebooks with integrated Intel Iris Pro graphics will arrive.

The first benchmark shows a processor Intel Core i7-6500U at an operating frequency of 3.10 GHz that faces a Kaby Lake Intel Core i7-7500U at 3.50 GHz which displays up to 19% additional performance with the same power consumption.

Recall that Intel Kaby Lake is manufactured using the 14nm Tri-Gate process.
