Intel plans to divide its manufacturing group into three segments

Intel's Technology and Manufacturing Group (TMG) is reportedly about to undergo a sea change, following the retirement of Sohail Ahmed , who has been at the helm of the group since 2016.

According to Oregon Live, a source well known for reporting news about Intel's inner workings, it has stated that Intel's TMG will soon be divided into three segments, each of which will serve a defined purpose and work to regain leadership in the company manufacturing. These groups include the Technological Development, Manufacturing and Operations and Supply Chain sections, all of which will operate under the direction of Venkata “Murthy” Renduchintala.

This shift within TMG comes amid delays from the company with its 10nm manufacturing node, which was originally slated to be ready for production in 2015. Today, the 10nm is not yet ready for production. en masse, with Intel setting a release date of late 2019, basically a 4-year delay.

The new Intel Technology Development group will be led by Mike Mayberry, director of Intel Labs. The Manufacturing and Operations department will be chaired by Ann Kelleher, who has led TMG together with Sohail Ahmed. Randhir Thakur will lead the TMG Supply Chain, ensuring that Intel receives everything it needs to keep its manufacturing operations running smoothly.

At this time it is unknown how these new sections will work together. The objective, most likely, is to optimize the entire creation of the new processors and chipsets, to avoid the problems they are having today with 10 nm.
