Intel prepares cpus with integrated radeon graphics for apple
Table of contents:
The Fudzilla web portal has mentioned in the past about the existence of an Intel processor with Radeon graphics, and although at the time it was not known what its purpose was going to be, it seems that new sources have now confirmed that the company behind this order is Manzana.
While it was thought to be a license agreement, leading many to think that Intel wanted to use AMD's graphics, it appears that the company that requested this combination was Apple itself.
Intel processors with integrated Radeon graphics were manufactured specifically for Apple products
Apple does not want to use NVIDIA graphics in any of its products and currently only uses discrete Radeon GPUs for both its computers and laptops. Apparently, an integrated solution with Intel processor and Radeon graphics is something the company wants for its future products.
The 13-inch MacBook Pro currently uses Intel Iris Graphics 540 or Intel Iris Graphics 550 graphics, and this isn't really enough for the most demanding users. A Radeon core in the same thermal configuration would offer much more.
On the other hand, the 15-inch MacBook Pro comes with a Radeon Pro 450 with 2GB of GDDR5 memory and Intel HD Graphics 530 or a Radeon Pro 455 with 2GB of GDDR5 memory and the possibility to automatically switch to an Intel HD Graphics 530.
However, a laptop with an Intel processor and Radeon graphics would simply be much more powerful and efficient than a laptop with a discrete processor and a discrete Radeon GPU. On the other hand, the price of the APU (an integrated CPU with a GPU) would be lower than that of two separate chips.
In addition, this would also allow the incorporation of a smaller and cheaper motherboard. Apple will likely be the first company to announce an Intel CPU with Radeon graphics, a project that could come into the hands of other manufacturers.
We have heard that many have started calling this project “Kaby Lake - G”, something that Bench Life already mentioned in April of this year.
