Intel prepares its new generation of optane units

Table of contents:

Intel's Optane products so far fall into one of two categories. On the one hand, there is the flagship P4800X enterprise SSD and its derivatives. On the other we have the small M.2 units, mainly intended for the use of cache.

The new Optane M15 and 815P SSD models are coming

Based on leaked roadmaps, we know that the current M10 model is being replaced by the new Optane M15 memory, codenamed 'Carson Beach'.

On the other hand, the Optane SSD 800P model is being replaced by the new Optane SSD 815P, codenamed 'Bombay Beach' . Capacity options are changing slightly for M15 cache modules, which offer 16GB to 128GB in M.2 2280 format and 16GB to 64GB in M.2 2242 size. Optane 815P drives will be available in Same 58GB and 118GB capacities as 800P.

System requirements would be maintained (Kaby Lake Platform or higher)

The system requirements for the Optane products mentioned above have not changed from their predecessors. Caching this super-fast Intel memory requires a Kaby Lake or newer platform and the use of Intel's Optane-Memory storage drivers for Windows. Otherwise, both the M15 and 815P are standard NVMe SSDs that can be used as normal data or bootable drives on any system that supports this possibility.

This new generation has not yet been 'officially' revealed by Intel, the only official announcement, so far, was about the H10, which we talked about earlier, and which combines Optane with NAND QLC memory.
