Intel Introduces New Products for 5g Networks
Table of contents:
Intel today unveiled a portfolio of hardware and software, including the launch of the new 10nm Intel Atom P5900, system-on-a-chip, for wireless base stations, a critical target for initial 5G network deployments. The company thus focuses on the deployment of this type of network for its new phase, seeking to offer customers the fastest and most effective route to design, produce and deploy 5G solutions.
Intel Introduces New Products for 5G Networks
It is a wide portfolio, in addition to showing various collaborations of the firm. Both hardware and software are present in this product portfolio.
New hardware
Hardware has been the main protagonist of the presentation of the firm, which has left us with several announcements or launches in this regard. Since we find a new system on a chip and adapters. These are the news from Intel:
- Launch of the Intel Atom P5900 platform: The firm extends its architecture from the core to the access and to the limits of the perimeter of the networks. The Intel Atom P5900, a highly integrated SoC, offers the capacity to operate 5G base stations today and for the future, including a highly efficient virtualized computing environment, ultra-low latency, accelerated performance, and precision load balancing. The product expands Intel's extensive portfolio of silicon solutions for network environments and introduces the company's silicon technology as the foundation for the base station market, with 6 million 5G base stations planned through 2024. Intel is working with the main suppliers to offer this product as part of their future differentiated solutions in the market. Launch of the new 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors: The new 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors released today will deliver performance improvements of up to 36% over the previous generation and increase value for customers in their cloud environments, network and perimeter. Xeon Scalable extends its decades-long track record as the industry's premier database platform. In addition, Intel has released 17 updates for Select Solutions aimed at supporting these new processors for customer-prioritized workloads. Introducing Diamond Mesa, 5G Acceleration Using Structured ASICs : Diamond Mesa is designed to complement Intel's portfolio of network processors and deliver the high performance and low latency that 5G networks require. Structured ASICs like Diamond Mesa offer a balance between the configurability and fast deployment time of FPGAs, and the efficiency and performance tuned of custom ASICs. Introducing the Intel 700 Series Ethernet Network Adapter with Hardware Enhanced PTP (Precision Time Protocol) (called the Edgewater Channel) - the Ethernet 700 Series is the first Intel 5G optimized network adapter with hardware enhanced PTP. The latency requirements of 5G network implementations have been challenging for today's Ethernet technology, especially on edge servers. However, maintaining accurate time synchronization across the network at an affordable cost is one way to address application latency needs. The 700 Series Ethernet Adapter increases the synchronization accuracy required by 5G networks through a combination of hardware and software enhancements.
software
The other part of this presentation has made reference to the software, since the firm leaves us with news in this field. Intel expands its industry-leading suite of software tools to accelerate the market launch of innovations for its customers and partners through new capabilities built into OpenNESS (Open Network Edge Services Software). OpenNESS now offers support for standalone 5GNR and EPA ( Enhanced Platform Awareness ) deployments that provide customers with the flexibility to easily deploy cloud-native edge microservices of their choice.
Many new features that Intel has presented at this event, so it has been a key presentation, showing how the firm puts 5G as one of its priorities today.
