Following the agreement between Apple and Qualcomm, Itel was already announcing its intention to abandon the mobile phone modem market. The company is currently in the process of exiting this market. Currently they have a series of patents in this regard, which they will not use. For this reason, the firm seeks to provide them with an outlet, something they could do by selling it.

They would actually organize an auction, so that the highest bidder would buy these patents from the company. Thus, they could already end this business definitively.

Goodbye to patents

Intel no longer has any incentive to continue in this market segment, now that Apple has opted for Qualcomm. The company knows that this project is one of its biggest failures in years. So selling these patents can be a way to at least get something back in this regard. In this sense, there would be some 8, 000 patents in total, of various categories. We do not know if all of them are going to be put up for sale or not.

The company's intention is clear in this regard. They seek to get rid of them as soon as possible, through said auction. So there may be quite a few stakeholders, as these patents would allow them to move forward very quickly.

While Intel appears to have an intention to exit this market segment, the company would remain related in some way. Since, as discussed, they want to continue having a presence in network technology and have some influence in this segment. So we will see what decision they finally make.
