Intel works on 22-core processors for lga 2066 and 8 cores for lga 1151

AMD is putting a lot of pressure on an Intel that has spent too many years accustomed to reigning without competition, the semiconductor giant is working on new 22-core processors for LGA 2066 and 8-core for LGA 1151.

We know that AMD has a Ryzen 7 2800X processor saved, and that new Ryzen Threadrippers with up to 32 cores are on the way, something that can greatly complicate the existence of an Intel, which is currently limited to 6-core processors for the mainstream range, and 18 cores for its HEDT platform.

Intel is working on a new silicon for its LGA 2066 platform, which will allow it to offer users 20-core and 22-core processors, which will maintain compatibility with the current X299 chipset, so only a BIOS update will be needed to be able to use them. These new processors will stand up to the 32-core Ryzen Threadrippers, until the arrival of a new Intel HEDT platform, with support for gigantic 28-core chips.

As for the mainstream range, for months there has been talk of an 8-core Coffee Lake processor for the LGA 1151 socket, which seems to be closer than ever, and its arrival on the market would take place in the month of September. This processor will maintain the same iGPU as the current Core i7 8700K, and will have a total of 16MB of shared L3 cache for all cores.

There is no doubt that the arrival of AMD Ryzen has made Intel put the batteries, we are already talking about 8-core CPUs on a platform that a year ago only offered four cores.
