Yesterday afternoon, the penultimate day of the month of October, was full of news for users of devices and equipment of the bitten apple. In addition to the launch of the new iPad Pro, MacBook Air and Mac Mini, Apple has officially released the first major update to its mobile operating system for iPhone and iPad, iOS 12.1, a version that finally introduces group FaceTime calls, announced and then postponed, support for eSIM and much more.

iOS 12.1, the first major update

Along with iOS 12.1, Apple also released yesterday afternoon macOS Mojave 10.14.1, tvOS 12.1 and watchOS 5.1, but this time we are going to focus on the novelties introduced for the iPhone and iPad:

The first and most anticipated is Group FaceTime. This option was already present in the preliminary versions of iOS 12 however, almost at the last moment, Apple decided, or was forced to delay its release. From now on we can make group calls by FaceTime with up to 32 people simultaneously. What madness!

Second, eSIM support for iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR. Now you can already use two numbers in the same terminal, although this will depend on your telephone operator.

More than 70 new emojis are also arriving including new types of people with different colors and haircuts, a lobster, a peacock and many more.

In the photographic section, iOS 12.1 introduces a new function: live depth control. From this moment on, you can control the degree of blurring of portrait mode while taking the photo, and not only later. Also, this update fixes a bug where faces were sometimes blurred.

Finally, as in any update, iOS 12.1 also includes the typical improvements in performance and stability of the system as well as the correction of other minor bugs detected since the release of iOS 12.
