Kingston Grandview is a new PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD that has been introduced at CES and will hit stores this year. The goal is a unit that takes full advantage of the extra speed that the PCIe 4.0 interface offers but at a reasonable cost.
Kingston Grandview is an upcoming mid-range PCIe 4.0 SSD
Kingston is at CES showcasing its upcoming mid-range M.2 NVMe SSDs that use the latest PCIe 4.0 x4 interface and NVMe 1.4 protocol, codenamed " Grandview ". Later this year, this unit will be launched as a 'reasonably priced', high-performance product under the company brand or HyperX.
The drive will be available in 500GB up to 2TB variants and will be powered by Marvell's 12nm "Whistler Plus" controller that has 4 flash channels, and a bandwidth of 1.2 GT / s per channel. Kingston does not provide any information on whether it is a TLC or QLC NAND flash memory, nor do we have performance figures made by the manufacturer. The PCIe to M.2 adapter in these photos will not be part of the package, they warn.
The other product they exhibited there is the “Seccos”, their new PCIe 3.0 x4 unit that uses an unnamed 8-channel controller (probably Marvell), and the 3D NAND TLC flash, with capacities ranging from 250GB to 2TB. Kingston released some Seccos Model 1TB performance numbers: 3, 449MB / s sequential reads and 2, 839MB / s sequential writes. The manufacturer's rate performance numbers are up to 3, 500 MB / s read and up to 3, 000 MB / s write.
We will probably see a lot of PCIe 4.0 SSDs throughout this year. We will keep you informed.
