Little by little we are learning more details about the GTX 1060. This time it is filtered that it will have 6GB of RAM. Will Nvidia make it compete against its GTX 1070 or is it on the defensive for the AMD R9 480 ?

GTX 1060 with 6 GB of RAM

It is rumored that it will have the GP104-150 GPU chip, plus the alleged 6GB GDDR5 of RAM, its 2048 CUDA Cores and a 192 bit bus. Where the GTX 1070 will mount the GP104-200 chip and have the chilling number of normal 8GB GDDR5, while the GTX 1080 will fit the GP104-400 and 8GB GDDR5X chipset positioning itself as the top of the range for 2016.

As you can see they will all be released as Pascal's “refritos”: GP104 as happened between the GTX 580 and GTX 680 a few years ago, and only an improvement between 15 to 30% and a lower consumption of TDP is estimated.

Which, by the way, is not a bad thing… because it will allow us to play Full HD (1080p) in ULTRA and it will give a lot of war in 2560 x 1440p resolution.

Is the memory upgrade due to it? Clearly, AMD Polarias 10 will launch its direct competitor: AMD Radeon R9 480 with a fantastic 8 GB of GDDR5 memory, a 256-bit bus and 2560 Stream Processor with GCN 4.0. That if AMD refines the drivers this time… the war will be served (the best thing that can happen to the final consumer).

But here comes the question… Will it be a rival to the GTX 1070? Everything will depend on the price of this mid-range… What is clear is that it will become Nvidia's best-selling graphics card in this year and in 2017. Especially since it will be the perfect candidate for virtual reality PC configurations (We recommend reading our guide) and it will be more affordable than the GTX 1070 or GTX 1080.

How about 6 GB of RAM? Will you make the leap for a GTX 1060?
