AMD Bristol Ridge is not even the tip of the iceberg of what we will see on the new AMD AM4 platform but it is already beginning to show us the benefits that AMD has in store for its new processors. The new AMD A12-9800 chip has been able to achieve an operating frequency of 4798.88 MHz with an Asus Octopus motherboard.

The AMD A12-9800 (65W) processor is the new spearhead of the AMD Bristol Ridge platform and It consists of a total of two modules that add up to four cores with Excavator microarchitecture at a maximum turbo frequency of 4.20 GHz. Excavator is the latest revision of the Bulldozer modular design that was introduced in 2011 with the Zambezi FX and has undergone a major evolution up to this final version. Alongside the Excavator cores we find Radeon R7 graphics with a total of 512 Stream Processors at a frequency of 1108 MHz.

With these characteristics the AMD A12-9800 has been able to boost its four cores to a final frequency of 4798.88 MHz with a voltage of only 1, 325v. Despite this, only the AMD Wraith heatsink has been needed to keep its temperatures controlled, it is quite clear that Excavator has made a huge leap forward in energy efficiency and has little to do with the FX Vishera swallows for the AM3 + platform.
