The battle against piracy has intensified in recent years. Although, on some occasions it seems to go somewhat surreal. Like what just happened in Poland. Some 300 people have seen their computers being seized by the country's police without prior notice. This entire operation has been carried out by downloading a movie four years ago.
Police seize hundreds of PCs for movie downloaded in 2013
This situation already sounds somewhat surreal, although it is not the first time that something similar has happened in Poland. Since in October of last year, the police visited the homes of hundreds of citizens seizing computers involved in the exchange of a comedy called "Screwed". In fact, in some cases these people were advised to settle rather than go to trial.
The same situation is repeated in Poland
Like last year, the situation is repeated. In addition, in the same region, although this time it is due to the download of a Polish film called “Drogówka”. The most surprising thing about all this is that the alleged crime was committed through BitTorrent in 2013. For what 4 years have passed. A number of security experts appear to be studying activities involving copyright cases.
Since it seems that the country takes some cases to unsuspected extremes. As now, they seize 300 computers because their users are supposed to have shared files on P2P networks. But what is most striking is that these seizures have been happening regularly in the last year. So the battle against piracy goes to unsuspected extremes in Poland.
This situation has been so since 2014, when a lawyer named Artur Glass-Brudzi reported copyright infringements to the prosecution for sharing movies. Since then, these seizures of computers based on the IP indicated by this lawyer in said case have been carried out. A somewhat absurd situation, but one that already affects hundreds of citizens in Poland.
