Microsoft announced its next video game console in the middle of this year with the code name Scarlett, although very little is known about it because no details of any kind have been given. The rumors about the new generation of Microsoft consoles are beginning to come to light, and tells us that Microsoft will use AMD hardware again, as it happened with XBOX One and XBOX One X. The first rumors tell us that the next game console will use a Zen 2 processor and a Radeon GPU.
XBOX 'Scarlett' - Microsoft would again bet on AMD, now with its Zen 2 architecture and Radeon graphics
The next generation of consoles will presumably arrive in 2020, with a significant improvement over current consoles, both at the CPU and GPU levels, which will facilitate the next big change in video game graphics, where they will be looking 4K as a new standard.
Brad Sams, executive editor at Thurrott.com, has claimed that the next generation of Microsoft's "Project Scarlett" consoles will include AMD's upcoming 7nm Zen 2 processors as well as a next-gen graphics unit, likely Radeon. It also claims that backward compatibility is assured on the upcoming XBOX, which was one of Microsoft's top concerns.
With Scarlett, the new XBOX aims at 4K resolutions and 60 frames per second, this is the second news that states that Microsoft wants to reach this standard and leave behind the 30 fps that accompany us in most console video games. Brad Sams also claims that hardware will be the least 'differentiator' than in previous generations.
Given the designs of AMD's next-generation EPYC processors, the Scarlett console is likely to use a 'multi-die' system architecture. This does not mean that you will be using an EPYC processor, in any way, for cost reasons. What we do not know at this point is if they bet on a Ryzen processor or an APU (Again). We also don't know exactly what GPU will own, but we could bet that it would be the Navi architecture.
