Production of dram memories will continue to be very limited in 2018

Samsung, Micron and SK Hynix are not very eager to increase the production of DRAM units

At this time, it is even feared that insufficient DRAM memories may affect smartphone manufacturers in particular, since many of them will be unable to increase the memory capacity of their next phones.

Samsung, Micron and SK Hynix, the three largest manufacturers of DRAM memory, have apparently slowed down the pace required by the industry as if it were an attempt to artificially inflate prices due to the slow pace of production.

“These providers chose to slow down the expansion of their capabilities and the migration of their technologies in order to keep next year's prices at the same high level as during the second half of this year. By doing this they will also help preserve high profit margins, ”says TrendForce.

The production of DRAM memories is expected to increase by 19.8% in 2018, however, this figure does not coincide with the growth in demand, which would increase by 20.6%.

Therefore, the year 2018 will probably bring us similar or even higher prices than the ones that were this year, while the capacities of the memories would remain the same.

Several reports assure that the three companies mentioned above would be dealing with insufficient space to expand their production capacities, and the construction of new facilities is not something that can be achieved in such a simple way, besides that it would involve huge investments.

In this way, manufacturers would prefer to keep the same prices as this year, as well as the same limited offers in terms of DRAM memories.
