The radeon r9 285x could have been canceled

Anonim

Apparently the Radeon R9 285X based on the AMD Tonga XT GPU has been canceled, it is what can be deduced from the AMD response to a Twitter user who asked about said card, AMD has replied that they are only launching the R9 285

The reason was mainly due to the fact that the new Tonga pro-based graphics cards barely offer any performance improvement over the older AMD Thaiti GPU-based R9 280s and the reduction in consumption is equally insignificant. With these data, it is concluded that the premium of Tonga-based cards over Thaiti is much greater than the improvement in performance and consumption and AMD considers that it is not worth it.

To this we must add that the Nvidia GTX 970 is supposed to arrive with a TDP of approximately 148W and a price in its reference model of 330 euros, so there would not be much room in the market for the new AMD Radeon R9 285X card..

We will keep you informed on the subject as more information appears.
