During the Galaxy GOC event, the first 3DMark benchmark using Ray Tracing was presented, with the Port Royal demo. This new benchmark in 3DMark will be available in January, but we can already see a video captured directly from the event to check the results achieved by a powerful RTX 2080 Ti.

Port Royal is the new 3DMark benchmark with 'Ray Tracing'

As you may recall, Port Royal is the new benchmark used by Ray Tracing from UL (formerly Futuremark). It is currently slated to launch on January 8 and will be provided as an update to the current 3DMark. The benchmark uses the DirectX API for the demo, which makes extensive use of Ray Tracing effects

During the Galaxy GOC 2018 event, the first demo was made and the RTX 2080 Ti graphics card and an Intel Core 9900K CPU were used.

The test was done with an Intel Core i7 9900K processor and the RTX 2080 Ti

Port Royal basically shows the landing of a spaceship, a real-time cinematic that uses reflection, light and shadow effects enhanced with Ray Tracing. The GTX 2080 Ti can barely run this demo smoothly, averaging 35.76 fps and 7, 724 points.

Apparently, Ray Tracing is still in its infancy with these first graphics cards from the Turing era, although it must be said personally that the graphic quality is not that it is especially 'surprising' for all the computing power it requires. We are talking about a graphics card like the RTX 2080 Ti, the most powerful on the market right now, which can barely run the demo above 30 frames per second.

Fortunately, it won't be long before we can test this demo ourselves, starting on January 8 in the 3DMark application, provided you have a GeForce RTX graphics.
