Intel cascade lake xeon w official release

A new generation of Intel Xeon W processors (W-3200) is coming, focused on workstations with some peculiarities. These chips are Cascade Lake based with an LGA3647 socket, and have 64 available PCIe 3.0 tracks.

Cascade Lake's new Xeon W-3200 family will be offered with up to 28 cores and 56 threads. As a Cascade Lake processor, the new Xeon W will come with additional hardware fixes for some of the vulnerabilities like Specter and Meltdown , similar to Cascade Lake Xeon Scalable processors. Intel has also made a substantial change in the way it intends to market its Xeon W processors, as the new models also switch socket compared to the previous generation.

Historically we have been provided with several generations of workstation CPUs on the same socket, however now it will be different and new chips will move from socket LGA2066 to socket LGA3647, limiting the number of users who want to upgrade their Xeon W processors -2100.

The new generation Xeon W has six full DDR4 memory channels. The silicon inside the new Xeon W has six memory controllers, allowing you to take full advantage of this feature. (Technically, the previous generation also had six memory controllers in silicon, but the platform was limited to four.)

One of the additional features of the Xeon W-3200 is the upgrade to 64 available PCIe 3.0 tracks for PCIe slots, compared to the previous 48. This sets a new record within the Xeon family.

Each CPU also supports AVX512, with two FMA units in each model. The memory support for all CPUs is listed as six channels of DDR4-2933 (except the 8 main parts, which are DDR4-2666).

The new line of Intel Cascade Lake Xeon W processors is currently available on the new Apple Mac Pro. We expect it to leak to other platforms in the next two quarters, and it may be more available in retail.
