AMD CEO Lisa Su has confirmed that all of the company's future APUs will be based on the Zen microarchitecture and will make use of next-generation AMD Polaris graphics.

New details on future AMD Zen-based APUs

We will have different versions of AMD Zen-based APUs, although all of them will use advanced Polaris graphics with a maximum of 11 Compute Units. With this we will have processors with a maximum of 704 stream processors integrated for a quite remarkable graphic performance. A configuration similar to the Radeon R7 360 that has 768 stream processors although less efficient due to belonging to a previous version of the architecture. This new generation of graphics integrated into Zen APUs will have support for H.265 10-bit multimedia decoding and decoding, VP9 decoding, support for video outputs in the form of up to four DisplayPort 1.3 and HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.4.

The CPU part of the Zen APUs will have up to eight high-performance Zen cores accompanied by 512 KB of cache plus and up to 8 MB of L3 cache following a standard configuration of the new microarchitecture. These APUs will integrate a DDR4 controller with memory support at a maximum speed of 3, 200 MHz natively.

The benefits continue with the presence of technologies such as USB 3.1, USB Type-C, NVMe and TDP ranges between 45W - 65W for AM4-based desktop systems and between 12W - 45W in mobile versions.

The new Zen-based AMD APUs will go on sale in 2017.
