Intel xeon cpus will stop receiving omni technology

In the computing world, servers are essential for the proper functioning of 'The Cloud' . For this reason, a few years ago the blue team introduced Intel Xeon Escalabres CPUs on the playing field, which brought Omni-path technology. However, today there are more efficient alternatives that have made the company decide to finally retire them.

Intel Xeon CPUs finally abandon Omni-path

Until not long ago, it is well known that Intel Xeon CPUs have dominated the world of servers without much difficulty.

With very respectable power and an acceptable evolution throughout their generations, these processors have made a name for themselves in history. It was not until the arrival of the AMD EPYC "Rome" that the red team would resume active and strong competition.

However, what we come to tell you today is a bit far from the technological forefront. Today we will talk about Omni-path , a curious technology that some of the first models of Intel Xeon CPUs used to achieve incredible performances (for the time) .

The “affected” models are the first generation of Scalable Intel Xeon CPUs with 'F' suffixes. As a curiosity, these processors presented a kind of fin on the bottom to activate said technology.

Over the years, technologies have evolved, which is why Omni-path has become obsolete. While with this technology we ideally reached 100 Gbits / s , the new Intel transceivers are capable of reaching 400 Gbits / s.

All this is thanks to the use of light as information and as we hope, the first quarter of next 2020 will arrive .
