- The first Nvidia 7nm graphics cards would arrive in 2020
Nvidia seems to be focused on its Turing graphics cards in 2019, very soon we will have the announcements of the RTX 2060 and the RTX Mobile series, so the next generation seems very far away. Still, recent reports are suggesting that future Nvidia GPUs would be developed with a 7nm EUV node from Samsung.
Nvidia would use Smasung's 7nm EUV technology on its next graphics cards
What differentiates Samsung's 7nm EUV node from TSMC's 7nm is its use of EUV (Extreme Ultra Violet) technology, which TSMC plans to implement in its 7nm + process. In layman's terms, EUV lithography uses light with a much smaller wavelength to help deliver more precise detail in silicon, making chip production more accurate and enabling the creation of smaller process nodes.
Moving to a newer process node offers several benefits, from the ability to package more transistors, higher performance, and energy efficiency. This change alone should allow Nvidia's next-generation products to outperform Turing, even without major adjustments to the GPU architecture.
The first Nvidia 7nm graphics cards would arrive in 2020
Although Nvidia has primarily used TSMC for the past generations, the company is no stranger to the technology Samsung offers. Nvidia's GTX 1050 and GTX 1050 Ti are based on Samsung's 14nm silicon, while Samsung's low-power GT 1030 also uses lithography from the Korean company.
Possibly we will see the new generation of Nvidia 7nm graphics cards during 2020.
