AMD has long been working on one of its main achilles heels, the graphics drivers. A few years ago, whenever there was talk of Radeon graphics, there was the issue of 'green' controllers that failed to get the full potential of the card until they were polished for months.

AMD graphics cards improve thanks to their drivers

Today, thanks to the new generation of Crimson controllers, that change and the controllers are much more robust, generate fewer headaches to install and manage to take full advantage of the cards almost from the beginning.

According to a recent study, thanks to AMD's next-generation drivers, the red company's graphics cards seem to improve their performance over time. This is demonstrated by different analyzes.

As we see in the first graph, from the Crimson 16.6.2 controller released in June 2016 to the new Crimson ReLive in December, the RX 480 improved its graphical performance between 6 and 7%.

Comparison: RX 480 vs GTX 1060

If the same RX 480 is compared to the GTX 1060, we see that in June 2016 the Nvidia option yielded up to 12% more in 1080p resolution and 8% in 1440p. With the latest AMD Crimson ReLive drivers, the GTX 1060's advantage over the RX 480 has evaporated and is virtually matched in performance.

RX 480 cuts its difference with the GTX 1060 in 6 months

In Direct X 12 tests the RX 480 was 3% higher in 1080p and 4% in 1440p with the July 2016 drivers, while with the new versions the card is 6% better in both resolutions than the option of Nvidia.

AMD appears to be doing its job better with drivers, where graphics cards improve over the months rather than stagnate, as with Nvidia's options.
