LG seeks to gain a foothold in the tablet market with its G-Pad, units designed for users who do not want to spend a lot of money but who at the same time are looking for a high-quality and reliable tablet with more than enough features to day-to-day tasks. This time we bring you the review of the LG G-Pad 10.1, keep reading and discover with us all its features and secrets.
LG G-Pad 10.1
The G-Pad 10.1 arrives in a cardboard box of small dimensions and with a predominance of gray, on the front we see two images of the tablet showing its front and its back as well as a logo.
We open the box and we find the tablet properly protected along with a wall charger, a quick start guide and a USB data cable to transfer files from our computer.
If we focus our attention on the G-Pad 10.1 we see a device of considerable dimensions due to the use of a 10.1-inch screen, something that does not allow us to transport it as comfortably as a unit with fewer inches, although in return it offers an excellent user experience with its large screen.
On the back is the gray "LG" logo next to the main quality certificates, a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and speakers.
At the top (landscape) are the buttons for locking / unlocking the tablet as well as the volume controls on the device. In the left frame are the 3.5mm jack for headphones, a microUSB port and a slot for microSD protected by a cover, we can use memory cards with a maximum capacity of 64 GB.
Finally on the front we find the 10.1-inch screen next to a 1.3 megapixel front camera and a generous glass that covers the entire front surface of the tablet.
LG G-Pad 10.1 technical specifications
The LG G-Pad 10.1 It is built with a plastic body that conveys the feeling of being in front of a very good quality device and shows us that this material can be as valid as metal, each having its advantages and disadvantages. It is built with dimensions of 260.9 x 165.9 x 8.9 mm together with a weight of 523 grams and is governed by the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, which gives us access to a large number of applications and games available on Google Play.
It has a good quality IPS screen with a 10.1-inch diagonal and a modest resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, a very tight figure that translates to 149 ppi but that in return will allow a very good autonomy and more comfortable performance than with higher resolution.
Inside is the efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, consisting of four Cortex A7 cores at a maximum frequency of 1.2 GHz and a GPUAdreno 305, a combination that is more than proven and offers very good performance in mid-range devices although It is true that it is time to make way for other more advanced and powerful solutions. Next to the processor we find 1 GB of RAM and 16GB of storage expandable through microSD up to an additional 64 GB. Again we get a bittersweet taste, this time for finding us with only 1 GB of RAM, a figure that is beginning to be scarce.
This hardware makes us think that the LG G-Pad 10.1 has been built with the aim of offering a very efficient device with battery consumption and a very remarkable autonomy thanks to its generous 8, 000 mAh battery. We can be in front of one of the tablets with the longest battery life on the market and perfect for users who want to spend several days without going through the charger and who are not as demanding with the performance and image quality of the screen.
Its specifications are completed with Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi 802.11 / b / g / n, A-GPS, GLONASS and a useful infrared port.
Image and sound quality
The LG G-Pad 10.1 offers good image quality thanks to its 10.1-inch IPS panel, although a higher resolution is lacking. The viewing angles are very good and the color representation is also good with correct tones, although perhaps a little more saturation could do with nothing.
Regarding the sound, we find a double rear speaker configuration that offers good quality and remarkable power, although it has the disadvantage that it plugs if we leave the tablet resting on a surface, in this sense it would have been better to opt for a speaker configuration on the front.
Optimus UI software
The LG G-Pad 10.1 arrives with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system with the Optimus UI customization of the Korean firm. A customization that is far from the design of Android stock and that bets on a modern design and flat colors in most of its sections.
Optimus UI offers us a series of applications and functions exclusive to LG. Among them we can mention QSlide, an additional bar in the notification area that allows the opening of some applications such as the calendar or the browser in floating tabs, QuickRemote for the use of the infrared port and QPair that is in charge of synchronizing the notifications between the tablet and your LG smartphone.
In addition to all this Optimus UI incorporates the KnockON and KnockCode functions that allow us to turn on the screen and unlock the tablet with taps on the screen, in this way we can forget to use the lock / unlock button that is not always left everything accessible that we want.
Finally we highlight the option for the customization of the virtual buttons on the screen and that allows us to add extra controls for various tasks such as lowering the notification bar.
LG G-Pad 10.1 performance
The performance of the LG G-Pad 10.1 is correct on a device with its hardware, it has enough power to move the Android interface and most of the games without major problems, the execution of the applications is quite fluid, as well as the transition between them in multitasking, although if we demand a lot if we notice a certain lag.
Specifically, I have tested the Asphalt 8: Airbone and Modern Combat 5 games, both being perfectly playable with this tablet, by contrast, NOVA 3 has been completely unplayable with a lot of lag.
Camera and battery
The LG G-Pad 10.1 also includes a 1.3-megapixel front camera and a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus. In optimal light conditions, it achieves quite meritorious results although with slightly washed out colors and low intensity, when conditions worsen its operation it worsens greatly and the images come out with a lot of noise.
As for video recording, the main camera allows us to capture at 1080p resolution and a speed of 30 fps, once again the results are not excellent but they do well enough to be a mid-range tablet. The camera has autofocus as can be seen in the second video.
WE RECOMMEND ASustor AS5002T ReviewThe photographic quality of the front camera is much lower, we leave you a sample of a photo and a video.
The 8000 mAh battery showed a very good performance giving more than 8 hours of screen with a very demanding use, the tablet has always been connected to the WiFi network and its use has been web browsing and, above all, playing and playing videos on YouTube. I think that with a lighter use this tablet can comfortably exceed 10 hours of screen without many problems.
Final words and conclusion
After testing the LG G-Pad 10.1 I can affirm that the Korean manufacturer has managed to manufacture a device with a very good quality and sufficient benefits for the bulk of users, although somewhat limited by hardware that is already beginning to show symptoms of exhaustion and In need of a replacement, the Snapdragon 400 processor has been on the market for a few years now and is worth retirement. The fact that it only has 1 GB is something that can hinder its performance since applications are increasingly demanding and we already see tablets with 4 GB of memory. Opting for a hardware of committed power also has its advantages, mainly in the autonomy of the tablet that we have seen that it reaches more than eight hours with a very demanding use.
As for the screen we can affirm that it offers a fairly good quality as a result of IPS technology, however the resolution is too tight and it is especially noticeable when reading text because on many occasions we will have to zoom to be able to read without problems. The representation of the colors is also improvable although it is not bad at all.
In summary a great product that will offer us many hours of entertainment and with a very solid construction, the quality is more than guaranteed in a product from a firm like LG, one of the most prestigious in the world of technology and that has been earned its reputation on its own merits by offering excellent products year after year. The LG G-Pad 10.1 is for sale with an approximate price of 250 euros.
